Donated to the people of Los Angeles in 1976 by the Republic of Korea, the Korean Bell of Friendship celebrates the bicentennial of the U.S. and honors veterans of the Korean War. The Bell cost $500,000 to construct and was patterned after the Bronze Bell of King Songdok built in 771 A.D.

The Bell Pavillion was built by thirty Koreans flown to the location, cost $569,680 and took 10 months to complete.

The Bell is rung four times a year, 4th of July, August 15 (Korean Independence Day), New Years Eve and every September to coincide with bell ringings around the country to celebrate Constitution week.
