Glass
Via Flickr:
Out of all the things I have, the glass always stay. The plastic gets put up then fades from style. The metal gets put up, then replaced by the wood. The wood gave me a splinter and was replaced by the rock. The rock fell on my toe so I ground it into sand and made glass.

With A Breath
Via Flickr:
Fifer ran to the supermarket late one night to grab some Hostess Cupcakes. On his way back through the dark forest he heard a twig snap behind him and stopped. Without a sound he stood, listening, frozen. Through the cold air he felt a warm breath down the back of his neck. Terror filled little Fifers body as he turned to face the monster behind him in the dark. Gimme some of those dang Cupcakes you pig, exclaimed the Big Bad Wolf, or I'll huff and I'll puff and inhale them all and with one breath, he did. The Big Bad Wolf began to choke and cough as Fifer ran. The pig reached into his coat, pulled out a box of Ding Dongs and a jug and yelled back to the Wolf, Got Milk! Not watching where he was going, he tripped on a stone, spilled the milk and squished his Ding Dong as he fell to the ground.
The moral of the story is ... don't be a pig.

Down Under The Rocks
Via Flickr:
The cold hands of Autumn reached down below the rocks and pulled me up. Closer to the surface I rose, excitement filled me. The pressure of six feet of dirt began to lighten and I could feel a warmth in the ground from the sun. At the surface covered with rocks I stopped, a branch scraped the ground and the rock above my eye fell over. Sunlight fell across my eye for the first time in a year, I winced, blind for a moment. Early, unable to move, I stayed below the rocks, staring, watching the world walk by. Soon, Halloween will be here and I will escape my prison once more for one cold, dark night and I will walk among you.

The Empowerment Of A Child's Dream
Via Flickr:
When I was but a wee lad, all my friends wanted to be Policemen, Firemen, Doctors and a Ballerina (that was my fault, I convinced him Ballerina was another word for Super Hero. Not a good idea since his Mother was still mad at me for dying her rabbit blue and trying to convince her it was just really cold)
One morning my Dad asked me, Son, what do you want to be when you grow up? With pride in my eyes I exclaimed loudly, a HOBO. He stared at me blankly for a minute then asked me if I knew what a Hobo was. Sure, I replied. A Hobo rides the rails from one side of the country to the other through mountains, deserts, forests and along the oceans. A Hobo eats beans over an open fire under the stars and sleeps outside in a sleeping bag. A Hobo carries his lunch wrapped in a red handkerchief at the end of stick. A Hobo gets ... My Dad held up his hand to stop me from talking. He looked down at me and said, Son, A Hobo is a bum. I smacked him with my stick with my lunch wrapped in a red handkerchief at the end. Beans flew everywhere. The cans were too heavy so I just poured the beans into the handkerchief. Don't call your son a bum, I exclaimed. With beans splattered across his cheek, he ruffled my hair, smiled and said, Son, you'll make a fine hobo one day.

Shaking Hands With Hummingbirds
Via Flickr:
Yesterday morning I went outside and sat down in the warm morning sun. As I enjoyed my coffee, a hummingbird flew up to my face and hovered about 6 inches away for a few seconds and flew off. A moment later he was back, hovering right in front of me again. Crossed eyed, I stared back at it and the thing started cussing me out and then flew off again. A few moments later he was back and he brought a buddy this time. There they were, two hummingbirds, hovering a few inches from my eyes chattering like crazy. So, I did what any normal person would do, I reached up with finger and thumb, squeezed my cheeks from below the eyes to above the mouth, rolled my eyes around in circles and stuck my tongue out and went thhhhhpppptttttttttt!! They left.
I reached down to my coffee, took one sip, looked up and the next thing I know, SIX hummingbirds are coming right at me. They start zooming all around me, darting up and down and around my head. I ran towards the patio door and made it just in time as I looked out the door and saw twelve tiny beady little hummingbird eyes staring back at me through the glass. After a moment they flew back to the chair I was on and that's when I remembered I had put the Hummingbird Feeder under the chair to protect it from the high winds the night before.
So I wrote up a treaty with them that I wouldn't block there feeder if they wouldn't beat me up. We shook on it and all has been well since then.

Way Up There In Apollo 9
Via Flickr:
The entire United States Apollo program is overshadowed by one of the greatest stories ever told, Apollo 13. We completely forget about all the other triumphs and tragedies of the US Space Program. Nothing like this had ever been done before and the only way to know if it worked, was to put your life on the line and test it out.
Apollo 9 was the first time a complete Apollo space craft launched into space. It included the CSM (Command/Service Module), LM (Lunar Module) and the Saturn V launch rocket. It was also the fist time Self Containing Space Suits had been worn.
Launch Date: March 3, 1969
Return Date: March 13, 1969

Weather Or Not
Via Flickr:
Fall is here! You can tell because yesterday morning I cleaned the pool and late yesterday afternoon we got 30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph that lasted all night. Don't ask how the pool looks. On top of that, we are down to double digit temperatures in the 90's.
Fall also means we can start planting spring vegetables. Not a typo, Fall here is like spring where you are. Our Winters will be like your summers. It just so happens our Summers are like your versions of Hell only hotter.
Now, don't hate people but this morning I walked outside and the temperature was in the low 70's. I was a bit on the cold side. Your hating aren't you.
